There are so many ways to go passed an opponent as there are touches on the ball in a match, though few are as effective or as simple to execute as the wall pass.
At its siomplest a wall pass is a give and go or what used to be termed as a one-two.
Using a wall pass effectively, you are able to go passed an opponent, easily, without the need to do tricks, step-overs, turns or special skills.
With a team-mate aware of your intentions a simple give and receive will enable you to go passed an opponent without expending anymore effort than is needed.
The wall pass takes its name from indoor 5-a-side football, where a player would hit the ball against the wall, receiving it back off the wall to go passed a player. A wall pass on an outdoor pitch works in exactly the same way though using a team-mate instead of a wall.

This technique is most effective in the attacking third, with a midfield player and an attacker working together to open up spaces behind the opposition defence. Running in from deep a simple give and go will enable you to beat a defender with just a pass of the ball.
